Salvia greggii is a perennial shrub that can grow over 36 inches tall, and provides nectar for hummingbirds. As a perennial shrub, Salvia greggii (Autumn sage) can provide hummingbirds a safe space for nesting or during the hummingbird’s hibernation known as torpor. During torpor the hummingbird’s feet will lock around the branch it’s sitting on, and the hummingbird will hang upside down until it exits torpor.
